Some customers have reported that some messages from the eBay Messages area are not being read by the service. You can confirm this is a problem by viewing the log file in the Accounts area. If you see a 'ebay_trade_xml: GetMyMessagesRequest: curl_exec error' message when reading the eBay accounts, this problem could be affecting you.
The problem is due to the API eBay API call GetMyMessages timing out. The cause of the timeout a problem in the eBay end processing requestes when the number of messages in the inbox is very large. eBay suggests a workaround of Deleting older messages from the inbox or moving to a separate folder.
The reason we are using this API call, in addition to the GetMemberMessages call, is related to another problem in the eBay API, which was introduced when eBay deployed the email intermediation service earlier this Summer.
eBay reports both issues should be corrected by Q1 of 2011.
